Besides design, Zilin's biggest interest lies in cooking. He often gets asked where he finds the recipes for his dishes. His answer is always consistent: he doesn’t strictly adhere to any. This isn't because he doesn’t know the recipes or is unwilling to share. Zilin believes that a true cooking enthusiast shouldn’t be confined to following recipes rigidly. When unsure about how to make something, he looks online or in magazines — but he almost always adds his own twist to them, usually omitting anything processed to make them as natural as possible.

For Zilin, cooking and designing are seamlessly integrated into his life. Being a good cook, much like being a good designer, requires practice, skill, and efficient time management. Most of the food he prepares is Asian style, though he sometimes creates fusion dishes that incorporate elements from other cuisines."
