Tools & Duration
Adobe Illustrator, Oct - Nov, 2018
DESIGN PROCESS
My design process include six steps: Research, Preparation, Draft, Design, Revise, and Publish.

RESEARCH AND OUTLINE
The first step in the process was to conduct an extensive and thorough research on Ernest Hemingway regarding his achievements and important landmarks in his life, in order to gain a better understanding on who he is. After my research, I decided to start thinking about the logo for the brand. My breakthrough for the logo design was including the elements of the author and his infamous book “The old man and the sea.” Seeing as how Ernest Hemingway is an important figure in literature, I instantly associated him with pen and paper. “The old man and the sea” is one of his defining pieces of literature, and so I thought if I can combine these two elements together, it would perfectly reflect his life.
PREPARATION
After conducting the research, I started to prepare my design and thought about what guides I would use along the process. In order to reflect his fortitude personality, I chose to use black, white, and red for the main colors. sheets.
DRAFT
I began sketching some ideas using illustrator to make some initial designs.

DESIGN
The content for the logo was inspired from “The Old Man and the Sea” and his portrait. I didn’t want to trace his whole facial structure, instead I used his initials to form elements of his face. To create his hair I used the letter H as in Hemingway, and then used the letter E in Ernest to create his mustache.
REVISE & FINAL DESIGN
In the final design I chose to use the letter portrait and two fishes representative of his novel. Hemingway’s portrait is formed by his capitalized initials, which I thought was a great way to express a form of his identity. I added a variety of details for his letter portrait, because I wanted my audience to easily see the different features in the logo. In order to create the best representation, I included more space to keep the overall structure clean and neat. In addition, I drew two fishes below his portrait; the fish is the element that stems from his book “The Old Man and the Sea.” Not only people who know Hemingway are able to easily understand what the fish represents, but it evokes a sense of curiosity and detail from the brand.

STYLESHEETS
The typeface for this project includes Adobe Caslon Pro, Mistral, and Imprint Mt shadow. I chose to use typeface Adobe Caslon Pro for Hemingway’s face portraits because the software typeface makes the whole logo harmonious and creates a sense of unity I wanted to use. I used Mistral for Hemingway’s quote; I believe Mistral is the best typeface to show Hemingway ’s ambition, strong-will and bravery. Imprint Mt shadow was used to create the writing around logo. I used Imprint Mt shadow and applied 100px for tracking space, this created the best fit inside the logo, and made the logo come together very well.
